UFC bantamweight Song Yadong has given his thoughts on Sean O’Malley’s recent mask joke ahead of their fight at UFC 324.
On Saturday night, Song Yadong has the chance to secure the biggest win of his career thus far – and potentially even a title shot. He will be going head to head with former world champion Sean O’Malley, in a fight that has now been bumped up to the co-main event slot in the wake of Kayla Harrison vs Amanda Nunes falling through.

Song has a great opportunity here to really make a statement and let the world know that he is a legitimate contender at 135 pounds. Of course, O’Malley is eager to get back to winning ways, and he will do everything in his power to make sure that happens.
In the build-up to the fight, O’Malley created controversy by wearing a face mask during his face-off with Song, due to his opponent being Chinese. Yadong had the following to say on the matter this week.
Song’s view on O’Malley controversy
“This fight is the most important so far,” Song told MMA Junkie and other reporters at Wednesday’s media day. “If I win this fight, I might be the next title challenger, but I will take whatever the UFC gives me. But winning this fight is very important for now.”
“I will make sure I dominate the fight,” Song said. “I don’t give the referee a chance to give him win, so I will try to finish him every round. … I really want to knock this guy out. Just win is not enough. This fight is not about winning, it’s about my future – make a statement.”
“I’m OK, but don’t bring the racism in this sport,” Song said. “Just keep it sport. He already regrets it. He got an interview from China, and he said he’s sorry to fans. He tried to get inside my head, like mind games, but I don’t care. I just focus on the fight.”
