Apple is heading back to the Oscars with a solid showing for its film slate. The tech giant picked up six Academy Award nominations this morning, highlighted by a Best Picture mention for its big-budget racing movie F1.
The film, which stars Brad Pitt as a veteran driver coming out of retirement to mentor a rookie played by Damson Idris, has already been a massive hit at the box office. Beyond the top prize, the Academy recognized the movie for its technical work, including Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, and Best Editing.
“We are so grateful to the Academy for its recognition of F1, Come See Me in the Good Light, and The Lost Bus (three films that evoke the exhilaration of human connection and which have resonated with global audiences in distinct ways),” said Zack Van Amburg, Apple’s head of Worldwide Video, in a statement.
It was also a big morning for the documentary Come See Me in the Good Light. The film follows poets Andrea Gibson and Megan Falley as they navigate a cancer diagnosis. It earned a nomination for Best Documentary Feature, marking a first for Apple in that specific category.
Rounding out the list is The Lost Bus, a drama about a school bus driver and a teacher trying to save dozens of children during a wildfire. The film, which stars Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera, landed a nomination for Best Visual Effects.
These latest nods continue a successful run for Apple at the Oscars. The company previously made history when CODA won Best Picture in 2022, and again last year when Killers of the Flower Moon saw Lily Gladstone become the first Native American nominated for Best Actress.
The winners will be announced during the ceremony in Los Angeles on March 15. All three nominated films are currently available to watch on Apple TV.
