Under-fire Celtic chief executive Michael Nicholson was confronted by a fan over the club’s minimal transfer business.
The supremo has been under-fire from a vocal section of the support during a disastrous season. The transfer movement in the summer market sparked anger amid the Parkhead diehards, and he publicly backed the ill-fated tenure of Wilfried Nancy hours before a disastrous defeat to Dundee United on December 16 – his fourth on the bounce on a night punters first told Nancy to sling his hook.
Pressure has only ramped up on the Celtic decision-makers after a slow January window. Julián Araujo’s arrived from Bournemouth early in the month but Borussia Monchengladbach hitman Tomas Cvancara has now sealed a loan switch with an option to buy.
But fans are desperate for more recruits in the midst of a three-way Scottish Premiership title fight with Rangers and Hearts. And a hard-fought point with Bologna gives the Hoops the chance to progress into the Europa League knockout stages.
But while in Italy watching Martin O’Neill steer the club to a valuable point, Nicholson was caught by a fan on camera. On a clip that has been shared widely on social media, the punter has his hand over the shoulder of Nicholson, before asking: “Alright Michael, who we signing Michael?”
Nicholson initially smiles during the interaction, but quickly walks away when the fan screams: “Nobody. You s****bag.”
The clip has split opinion amid the fans. One punter said: “Sorry, but this is cringe.” Another added: “Anyone encouraging or condoning this behaviour needs to take a back seat.” One chimed in: “He should be in Glasgow signing players.”
