Two people were taken to hospital following a two-vehicle collision early Friday morning near Austin, Manitoba.
Austin Fire Department reported that crews responded at 2:23 a.m. to a report of a crash at Highway 1 and Road 64W. Upon arrival, firefighters found a semi-truck along the westbound shoulder and an SUV in the north ditch.
“The two occupants of the SUV were found in the cab of the semi when crews arrived, and were assessed by EMS shortly afterwards,” noted a Facebook post.
Both occupants were transported to hospital as a precaution. The semi driver was unharmed.
The temperature at the time was -29°C, with a “feels like” temperature of -46°C.
Austin Fire Department added that these conditions highlighted the importance of being prepared for extreme cold.
