Canada recorded temperatures approaching –50 C on Saturday, according to Environment Canada. The coldest temperature in the country was –48.5 C in Key Lake, Saskatchewan.

In Alberta, the lowest temperature reported Saturday was –41.1 C at Fort Chipewyan Airport, while Beaverlodge was listed as the province’s warmest location at –4.5 C, Environment Canada said.
An hourly update later Saturday again listed Fort Chipewyan Airport and Egg Island as Alberta’s coldest locations, both at –32.6 C, while Hendrickson Creek was reported as the province’s warmest location at –5.3 C.
The lowest temperature reported in Alberta during the period occurred a day earlier, when CFB Cold Lake dipped to –43.7 C.
In Airdrie, Environment Canada’s forecast for Sunday calls for a high of –4 C, with a morning wind chill of –29, improving to –7 in the afternoon, and a risk of frostbite early in the day. Overnight lows are forecast near –19 C.
Daytime highs in Airdrie are forecast to rise through the week, reaching +2 C by Tuesday and +4 C by Friday, according to Environment Canada.
