The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is conducting a homicide investigation after an early morning shooting in Surrey.

IHIT now says it believes the shooting, which took place at a home on 91st Avenue near 125th Street, was targeted but not related to the B.C. gang conflict or extortion.

“The investigative team believes this to be a targeted homicide, between people known to each other, and they are working to understand the totality of the circumstances surrounding the shooting,” said IHIT Sgt. Freda Fong.

“The presence of gun violence in a residential neighbourhood continues to be of concern for communities and police. We are liaising with our policing partners to collect evidence, conduct interviews and advance this investigation.”

Police were called to the home shortly before 5 a.m.

“Upon arrival, members located two men apparently suffering from gunshot wounds,” the Surrey Police Service (SPS) said.

“SPS officers, Surrey Fire Services, and BCEHS rendered aid to the victims. Unfortunately, one man was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Police say one victim was taken to hospital.
