A worker was seriously injured in a workplace incident at the Voisey’s Bay mine in Labrador yesterday.
It happened early Saturday morning when a section of the ground in the Eastern Deeps Mine gave way.
In a statement to VOCM News, the company said the employee received emergency care on scene and has been stabilized in hospital.
“Vale Base Metals has notified regulatory authorities and is investigating the cause of the incident. Underground activities in the immediate area of the incident have been secured and we are working through a safe return to operations.”
Stop-work orders have been issued while provincial Occupational Health and Safety officials are en route to the site to investigate what happened.
