Members of the Soo Line Boxing Club coming away with some hardware this past weekend from Medicine Hat, AB for the Silver Gloves Championship tournament. In all, the athletes earned one Gold and three silver medals at the event hosted by the Medicine Hat Boxing Club under Head Coach Kerry Fahlman.
“It’s one of the biggest tournaments throughout the year, with multiple provinces in attendance, B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Nova Scotia even showed up this year. There were over 200 athletes,” shared Soo Line Boxing Club’s Head Coach, Clint Ducharme.
“We’re so proud of all our competitors. It takes guts to get in that ring and do battle. They all performed excellent!”
He said first up was Andrew Palomares versus a very strong opponent from Medicine Hat. “It was a well matched fight. We came up short on that one.”
Hunter Delanoy was matched up against a strong opponent out of Calgary in the Junior B final, taking home the gold medal.Â
“Hunter’s grit and determination overwhelmed his opponent and he won the bout by unanimous decision,” he shared.
Kash Mckinnon also had a strong opponent in the youth category final. He fought hard and strong. We dropped a close decision in that bout.”
Julianne Paslawski fought in the final on Sunday afternoon against a experienced young opponent out of Nova Scotia. “Julianne fought hard and strong. It was a very close bout!”
Ducharme commented, “Silver gloves championship brings the best boxers that fight hard to win the championship. It’s a great place to go to to level up your athletes, and it’s always a great show!”
He said the Club will be heading to Swift Current this coming weekend for provincials.
