The Los Angeles Rams lost to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. It was a 31-27 loss, just four points from moving on to the Super Bowl for Sean McVay’s Rams.

But that’s been the story of the season for the Rams. According to Doug Clawson of CBS Sports, the Rams’ six losses this season (including playoffs) made some NFL history.

All of their losses were close defeats. Those close defeats made some NFL history that only highlights just how brutal this season was for the Rams.

Rams make heartbreaking NFL history with six razor-thin losses

“The 2025 Rams epitomized the phrase… the difference between winning and losing is razor thin,” Clawson shared. Their 6 losses this season were by a combined 21 points. That adds up to the 4th-lowest average margin of defeat (-3.5) by any team in NFL history (min. 5 losses).”

The Rams lost six games this season, by an average score of 3.5 points. Considering all of the special teams issues this season, that statistic feels a lot worse.

The Seahawks have lost just three games, by a combined eight points. Seattle and Los Angeles were the best teams this season, and the Rams having two of their six losses come against the Seahawks isn’t a big surprise.

Their first loss was a 33-26 defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles; had the final blocked kick not been returned for a touchdown, their margin of defeat would’ve been even lower than it already is.

The Rams then lost 26-23 to the San Francisco 49ers in overtime in Week 5. Then in Week 13, they lost 31-28 to the Carolina Panthers. A few weeks later, the Rams lost 38-37 to the Seahawks and then 27-24 to the Atlanta Falcons.

If Jordan Davis didn’t return a meaningless blocked kick for a touchdown, the Rams would’ve lost all six of their games this season by 2.5 points. One field goal per-game, and the Rams, in theory, could’ve been undefeated.

As if the 2025 Rams season couldn’t be any more heartbreaking, this statistic makes things even worse for the Rams. It was a year of agonizingly close losses, and the latest one in the NFC Championship will sting for a long time.
