Red-hot Canada midfielder Ali Ahmed had a goal and an assist as Norwich City knocked off Championship leaders Coventry City, 2-1, at Carrow Road on Monday.
The 25-year-old Toronto native now has two goals and two assists in his first three league matches with the Canaries since arriving from Vancouver Whitecaps.
Frank Lampard’s side opened the scoring in the 38th through Romain Esse, who is currently on loan from Crystal Palace, but the hosts struck back in the second half.
Just a minute into the second frame, Ahmed’s beautiful through ball into the area was met by Anis Ben Slimane, who waltzed around Carl Rushworth, to even the match at 1-1 in the 46th.
Ahmed would then get on the scoresheet himself. After Liam Kitching was dispossessed by Jovon Mokama, Slimani found a streaking Papa Amadou Diallo, who cut back for the trailing Ahmed to slot home and make it 2-1 in the 67th.
The win was the Canaries’ third straight in the league, taking them four points clear of the drop zone in 18th. The loss means that Coventry’s league atop the table is down to three points over second-place Middlesbrough.
Norwich returns to action on Saturday with a visit to Boro.
