A man is dead after a targeted shooting in Vaughan on Monday afternoon, York police say.

The incident happened in the Weston and Rowntree Dairy roads area at around 1:08 p.m, investigators say.

The victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds and brought to hospital where he died, police say.

Police are “confident in saying (the shooting) was targeted,” but were unsure why, media relations officer PC Kevin Nebrija said Monday.

Investigators report a call for a vehicle fire in the area of Kipling and Woodbridge avenue area. They say they are trying to determine if the two incidents are connected.

So far no suspect description has been released, but police say a suspect vehicle is described as a black SUV.

There will be a large police presence and road closures in the area, police advised.
