Ahead of this weekend’s Farmers Insurance Open where he will play his first PGA Tour event in nearly five years, Brooks Koepka says he doesn’t regret his defection to LIV Golf.

Koepka, 35, made the move to the breakaway tour in the summer of 2022.

“I don’t regret anything I do,” Koepka said at a media availability. “I’ve always enjoyed the ride no matter where I’m at. That’s something you learn from anything you’re doing. I have no regrets, but at the same time I’m excited for this next chapter.”

The West Palm Beach, FL native rejoined the PGA Tour through the new Returning Member Program, which will see Koepka pay a $5 million charitable donation, be ineligible to play in the Presidents’ Cup and not earn any money from the Player Equity Program for five seasons, which could amount to up to $85 million.

Koepka said that one of the first calls he made after his release from LIV was to Tiger Woods.

“I’ve always had a good relationship with Tiger and I felt like that was what I wanted to do,” Koepka said. “Once I had the opportunity to get reinstated on the PGA Tour, it was exciting, but I kind of really didn’t know what to do. Tiger was the first person who came to mind. I didn’t know [new PGA Tour CEO] Brian [Rolapp], I didn’t really have a relationship yet with him because he’s pretty new. [PGA Tour commissioner] Jay [Monahan] was going to be the next call, but Tiger is somebody that I’ve relied on in the past for questions and answers and how to deal with things and I feel like that was probably the most comfortable call for me.”

A five-time major winner and nine-time Tour winner, Koepka admits to be unsure of how he will be received by the fans upon his return.

“I’m a little nervous about that, as well,” Koepka said of fan reaction. “Just to see how the fans respond to it. I hope that they’re excited, I hope they’re happy that I’m out here. It hopefully echoes the conversations I’ve had with other players. They’re excited that I’m back and happy to see me playing.”

The 2026 Farmers Insurance Open is set for Torrey Pines near San Diego.
