The Mountain House High girls soccer team had no answers for Central Catholic in their Valley Oak League clash on Monday night.
The Mustangs fell to the Raiders 4-0 to drop to 4-10 overall (1-7 VOL). It was the second straight loss for the hosts – fifth consecutive in the league. The Mountain House offense has been shutout in the last four league games.
The Raiders’ (6-7-1, 3-4-1 VOL) attack – led by leading scorer Adisyn Quadros – was rampant as the visitors picked up an enormous victory to remain in the chase for a playoff berth.
Quadros scored twice for Central Catholic – taking her tally on the year to 13 goals. She is fifth in the league in that category.
Avery Jones and Emma Sahagun added a goal and an assist apiece for the visitors, who are now just one game back of Sierra (4-3-1 VOL) in the standings. The Timberwolves currently occupy the third and final playoff spot.
The Mustangs tried to fight back but couldn’t find a way past the Raiders’ goalie Genevieve Bray, who made 10 saves. It was her third clean sheet of the season.
Freshman Namandeep Nijjar and junior Shanaya Chatterjee looked to spring some life into the hosts’ front line, but to no avail. Senior standout Kaitlyn Kiernan was unable to keep out the potent Central Catholic offense in the Mustangs’ goal.
The ‘Stangs are all but out of playoff contention with four games remaining in the regular season. However, head coach Juan Ramos’ side will still be hoping to pick up at least a couple more wins before the curtain drops on their campaign.
That quest will begin on Thursday when Mountain House is set to host Patterson (1-5-2 VOL). The Mustangs beat the Tigers 2-1 on Jan. 5 in their only win of VOL play thus far. Sophomore Bianca Lagarnia and senior Zoe Patrizio came up with the goals.
The Raiders’ victory saw them snap a streak of five games without a win. They will be battling Sierra and East Union (3-4 VOL) for a post-season ticket right until the very end.
