Reigning NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion Mac McClung won’t participate in this year’s event.
McClung, who plays for the Windy City Bulls of the NBA G League, has won three straight dunk contests. But his father, Marcus McClung, told ESPN that his son isn’t going to play in the 2026 contest.
“Not going to be 4 in a row,” Marcus McClung said. “Not one reason that I could say that was the main reason. In my opinion, it is more like a bunch of reasons that just pointed to him not doing it.”

McClung won last year’s contest after four of his dunks were given perfect scores by judges. He is the only player in NBA history to win three straight dunk contests. McClung and Nate Robinson are the only players to be three-time winners.
McClung has bounced around the league since not being selected in the 2021 NBA Draft. He’s played in nine career NBA games with the Bulls, Lakers, 76ers, Magic and Pacers.
He played three games for the Pacers this season, including on Oct. 31 against the Atlanta Hawks. McClung scored 12 points on 5-for-12 shooting. He was waived by Indiana six days later after the team signed Monte Morris.
McClung has had a stellar career in the G League. He won the league’s MVP award in 2024 after averaging 25.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.4 assists for the Osceola Magic. He’s played 11 games for the Windy City Bulls this season, posting 23.5 points and seven assists per game.
The 2026 NBA Slam Dunk Contest will be held on Feb. 14 at the Intuit Dome. The field for the event has yet to be announced.
