Conor McGregor has started his training camp for the upcoming UFC White House event, and claims he’ll return to action in top form.
McGregor is a former two-division UFC champ, having famously claimed the promotion’s featherweight and lightweight belts. He’s also the biggest star in MMA history, having headlined most of the 10 biggest pay-per-views in UFC history.
Unfortunately, it’s been many years since we’ve seen the Irish star in action. His last fight occurred in mid 2021, when he suffered a stoppage loss to Dustin Poirier that left him with a badly broken leg. He was also beaten by Poirier in his next most recent fight, suffering a knockout loss earlier the same year.
McGregor has been teasing a comeback for more or less the entire time he’s been away. So far, it hasn’t happened, but the UFC’s plans for an event on the White House lawn seem to reinvigorated him.
Over the last few weeks, the Irishman has repeatedly promised he is back on the straight and narrow after several high-profile brushes with the law. And now, he’s returned to SBG in Dublin, the gym where his career began, where he is working with his long-time coach John Kavanagh.
Apparently, his UFC White House camp is officially underway.
Conor McGregor vows to return to UFC in top form
“I’m 100 percent,” McGregor said in a video published by The Mac Life, which also include some impressive sparring footage. “We’re going in here 100 percent. I’m going into this fight 100 percent Conor McGregor. Not 92! 100 percent Conor McGregor.”
If McGregor does return for the UFC White House event, which is still far from certain, it’s unclear who he’ll fight. For a long time, Michael Chandler seemed like the only option. However, UFC boss Dana White has walked that plan back. Meanwhile, Jorge Masvidal has hinted that he could be fighting the Irishman.
