Metrolinx CEO Michael Lindsay shared video online showing a person jumping onto a GO train last Wednesday as it departed a station.
Video showing a person hopping onto a moving GO train with the doors already closed has prompted Metrolinx’s top official to speak out against “unsafe behaviour” on transit.
The incident happened on the evening of Jan. 21 involving a train travelling to Durham College Oshawa GO Station.
The footage posted by Metrolinx CEO Michael Lindsay on LinkedIn on Wednesday shows a person running across the station platform and jumping onto the train’s doorstep.
The person clings to the outside of the closed door as the train begins to accelerate. Seconds later, the train stops.
In his post, Lindsay wrote that the video captured “the worst way” to deal with missing the train.
“Once doors are closed on a train, even if it is still stationary, it is important to step back behind the yellow line. I know just how awful it feels to miss a train. But no exam, meeting, interview or appointment is worth putting yourself or others at risk,” the Metrolinx CEO wrote.
He shared that the crew had to brake suddenly when they saw what was happening.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
“Please heed all direction from Metrolinx staff and if you see unsafe behaviour in the rail corridor – report it immediately to us,” Lindsay concluded.
GO trains close their doors one minute before the scheduled departure time.
