The top half of the draw guarantees a new finalist at the 2025 WTA Montreal. Canadian wild card Victoria Mboko is the surprise package of the tournament as she seeks to continue this odds-defying run at her home tournament. Who will reach the semifinals?
WTA Montreal Quarterfinal Predictions
Victoria Mboko vs Jessica Bouzas Maneiro
Head-to-head: first meeting
Victoria Mboko could well be Canada’s next superstar. The 18-year-old is coming off a spectacular result in the last 16, beating top seed Coco Gauff to earn her maiden WTA quarterfinal. This is officially her career-best season with a guaranteed new career-high ranking after the tournament. It’s easy to see why there’s so much hype around Mboko, who now has a test of expectations against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. The Spaniard will be unfancied by many to progress further, but her run in this tournament continues to be defined by steadiness and a bit of luck. It’s now a possibility that only one top 50 win will be enough to secure her first WTA 1000 semifinal (defeated world #29 Ashlyn Krueger in the first week). Bouzas Maneiro cannot be written off, but if Mboko stays clear-headed from pressure and the weight of expectations, she’ll have the edge.
Prediction: Mboko in 3
Elena Rybakina vs Marta Kostyuk
Head-to-head: Rybakina 2-1 Kostyuk
Elena Rybakina survived a major scare to come away with a three-set win over Dayana Yastremska. It was far from an assured performance from the Kazakh, who tallied nine double faults in the two-and-a-half-hour contest. She saved a late break back point while serving for the match and pounced on her fourth match point to record her 20th hard-court victory of the season. Marta Kostyuk entered this tournament without a win in her last six matches in a run that dates back to early May in Rome. But to her credit, Kostyuk has rediscovered the winning formula in Montreal. The Ukrainian has won each of her three matches in the opening week from a set down. While Kostyuk is more battle-tested in the tournament, Rybakina enters the match with more rest and more control in her shot selection.
Prediction: Rybakina in 2
