WBC Middleweight champion, Carlos Adames, has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled title defense against Austin Williams, which was set to go down this weekend (Sat., Jan. 31, 2026) inside Madison Square Garden in New York City due to illness, per a report from The Ring.
Adames (24-1) hasn’t competed since his split draw with Hamzah Sheeraz (22-0-1) in Feb. 2025. He was on a six-fight win streak prior to that setback. As for Williams, he is on a three-fight win streak and has a record of 19-1 with 13 knockouts.
Now, he will have to wait a bit longer before he can claim WBC gold.
The Ring VI main event see Teofimo Lopez defend his WBO and The Ring Light Welterweight titles against Shakur Stevenson, who is undefeated (24-0) and is WBC’s current Lightweight champion of the world.
The DAZN-streamed main card will now feature five fights.
