Marvel’s greatest modern villain, the Maker, just reached his disturbing final form. The Maker, a villainous variant of Fantastic Four’s Reed Richards, has been locked away in his base, the City, for over two years. Now he is finally free again, and Marvel has confirmed that the Maker has become the City itself, fusing into one horrifying Lovecraftian creature.
Ultimate Endgame #2 is written by Deniz Camp, with art by Terry & Rachel Dodson, and Jonas Scharf. Preview pages for the issue catch fans up on what’s been going on inside the City since they last saw the Maker and his adversary, Tony Stark’s father Howard.
Spoiler: the answer is not pretty, as the Maker completes a disgusting metamorphosis.

One of the biggest shocks from Marvel’s original Ultimate Universe was how Reed Richards diverged from his traditional counterpart’s stalwart heroism to become one of Marvel’s nastiest, most unrepentant villains. As the Maker, he is the “Big Bad” of the Ultimate Universe 2.0, which completes his transformation from good man to inhuman force of evil in spectacular fashion.
Ultimate Endgame #1 ended with the return of Howard Stark, and his warning that “the Maker is the City,” revealing that the Ultimate arch-villain had merged with his sentient base of operations in order to form one giant, hideous amalgamation of flesh and construction. This levels up the Maker beyond what readers anticipated from this final epic confrontation.
The Maker Achieves Peak Villain Status, Showcasing How Terrifying One Of Marvel’s OG Heroes Can Be
The Evil Potential Of Reed Richards Finally Fully Realized

As a villain, the Maker tends to focus on stretching the limits of Reed Richards’ vast intellect, and his corresponding capacity for evil. Yet he’s at his best when creators don’t forget to incorporate the fallen hero’s physical stretching powers as well. Ultimate Endgame #2 does that on a surreal scale.
Marvel has explored the body horror potential of Reed’s powers before, but never like this. It is an unnatural, though apropos evolution for the Maker, who is in many ways the defining Marvel villain of his era. As even Marvel’s greatest traditional antagonists, like Doctor Doom or Doc Ock, have become more anti-heroic, the Maker went in the complete opposite direction.
Ultimate Endgame #2 will be available February 4, 2026 from Marvel Comics.
