Residents in the Greater Toronto Area are in for another chilly weekend with warnings issued for risk of frostbite, according to Environment Canada.

The national weather agency issued a yellow weather alert Saturday morning for wind chills of -25 to -30 for Saturday morning.

Those frigid temperatures are expected to come back again Saturday night and stick around until Sunday morning.

However, there will be some sunny breaks on Saturday with a high of -11 C that will feel like -19 C in the afternoon.

Tonight winds up to 15 kilometres per hour are expected with a low of -20 C and a wind chill of -27.

While the sun returns on Sunday, winds will pick up to 20 kilometres per hour in the afternoon. The day will warm up to a high of -8 C and will feel closer to -15 C.

Environment Canada’s warning urged residents to cover up and watch for any symptoms of frostbite, including colour changes on fingers and toes, pain, numbness or a tingling sensation.

If any symptoms are present, people should move indoors to warm up immediately.

“Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill,” it said. “If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.”

As cold weather persisted through the past week, the City of Toronto opened up an eighth temporary warming centre at the John Innes Community Centre on Thursday.

The city said on social media that warming centres remain open to provide people in need a warm indoor place to rest and access meals, washroom facilities and referrals to emergency shelter.
