The Saskatchewan Roughriders extended a key piece of their offense on Thursday ahead of Sunday’s unofficial start to CFL Free Agency.
The Roughriders announced a two-year contract for wide receiver Keesean Johnson, a “kee” move for the team after losing standout wide-receiver Dohnte Meyers to an opportunity with the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals earlier this offseason. Joining Meyers, he and Johnson formed a formidable duo of pass catchers for Saskatchewan with Johnson hauling in 86 passes for 1,159 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games.
A safety blanket for quarterback Trevor Harris, Johnson led the CFL in receptions on second down with 39. He collected four 100+ yard games on his way to finishing fourth in the total yards department, also tied for third in receptions despite only playing 16 of 18 games.

Running back A.J. Oullette is also on the list of key offensive players still unsigned by the Roughriders ahead of free agency. He joins West Final hero receiver Tommy Nield and starting offensive lineman Trevon Tate on the offensive list, and then on the defensive side of the ball, the Roughriders are still without contracts for starters like Malik Carney, Shane Ray, AJ Allen, and more.Â
The CFL’s official free agency period begins at noon on February 10.
