Prelim Pick of the Week: UFC Vegas 109
UFC Bantamweight Fight: Priscila Cachoeira vs Joselyne Edwards
Start Time: Saturday (8/9) 4:30pm EST (ESPN+)
The odds in a lot of the prelims on Saturday have big, wide lines. However, one that has a lot of value on it is the fight between “Zombie Girl” and “La Pantera”.
Although Cachoeira was once a punchline to MMA jokes, she has carved out a pretty nice career in the UFC. She’s 5-6 in the big leagues, but it’s her bantamweight resume that I’m riding here. I think she spent far too much energy trying to make flyweight and the results show when she’s up a weight class. She’s 2-1 in the UFC when up at her natural weight class. Additionally, she is 4-1 with four knockout victories in the weight class.
Joselyne Edwards has been stuck duking it out on the feet with fighters before. Even if she shoots, Cachoeira has been good at defending takedowns at this weight class too. If it stays in the feet, I’ll take the extra power and the fat underdog line.
