The New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks have been on this stage before, and even against each other.

The Super Bowl to cap off the 2025 NFL season, taking place here in February 2026, promises to be a fun matchup between two teams that have revitalized their fortunes with different QBs, Drake Maye and Sam Darnold.

It’s not as marquee a matchup as some. There is no Patrick Mahomes or Tom Brady.

There’s just a pair of teams trying to prove at the end of a bit of a topsy-turvy NFL season that they’re the absolute best and deserving of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.

You’ll have to wait a bit to actually see that happen, though.

Why does NFL take an extra week before the Super Bowl?

The NFL has done this dating all the way back to the first Super Bowl, for a number of reasons.

It helps build up the hype.

It allows travel plans to be put in place for participating fanbases and media.

It also gives teams recovery time to ensure the game is played close to full strength.

And so the Patriots and Seahawks have an extra week to get ready, to feel the nerves and to build the anticipation for the biggest game of most of their lives.
