MIAMI — FIU’s women’s tennis program kicked off its 2026 season with a 7-0 win over Syracuse at the PayCargo Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers extended their home match winning streak to 35-straight with a convincing victory over the Orange on a cold, windy day in Miami. FIU remains undefeated at its new home for tennis, the PayCargo Tennis Center, having suffered its last home defeat on Tuesday, March 22, 2022.
FIU earned the doubles point by securing wins on Courts 2 and 3 to take a 1-0 advantage. In singles, the Panthers won the first set in all six of their matches and had four straight set victories. Viktorie Hazmukova make the score 2-0 in FIU’s favor with a one-sided 6-1, 6-2 win on Court 6. A short time later, Katerina Mandelikova, who has moved into the top slot this season, dispatched her opponent, 6-3, 6-1. Jelena Vico, playing at No. 2 singles, clinched the match for FIU with a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
Each court was played out to a decision as Aleksandra Simeva closed out her match on Court 4, 6-0, 7-6. On Court 5, Maria Lucia Araoz-Gosn outlasted her opponent, 6-2, 4-6, 10-8. Vittoria Baccino was the final Panther to claim victory, winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 on Court 3.
