Picking a standout performer from Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Fulham is difficult, with several players performing to an excellent standard for Michael Carrick.
Three games, three wins for Michael Carrick at Manchester United, which sees his chances of getting the permanent job skyrocket.
Eyebrows were raised when United demanded Carrick achieve Champions League football, considering the slump he took over from, yet it looks very possible.
Carrick has done this with multiple good decisions, along with strong tactical set-ups in every game. But Carrick’s best decision has paid off, with another excellent outing against Fulham.

Michael Carrick admits he loves watching Kobbie Mainoo play football
Prior to Carrick’s arrival, Mainoo was set to leave United, having been treated harshly by Ruben Amorim, but since the change in head coach, he has been sensational.
He has started every game, and Mainoo was excellent against Fulham, making it three big displays on the bounce.

Carrick has restored Mainoo as a star for United, playing a key role in all the wins, helping Casemiro dominate midfield.
After this win over Fulham, Carrick praised Mainoo while talking to the media.
“Without the ball, he was terrific. And then with the ball, the ability to cope, he’s not fazed by it. He just plays his game and understands what is needed. The moments of quality, it’s what we expect from him, but you also forget how young he is.
“Seeing him today play with that confidence and belief, it was a real joy to watch.”
Carrick is a midfield legend and, as a result, is the perfect head coach to get the most out of Mainoo.

Carrick deserves a lot of praise for Mainoo’s Manchester United revival
While Mainoo was always good enough to be playing at this level, Amorim didn’t see it for whatever reason, and this surely took a toll on the young midfielder.
However, Carrick has managed to instantly resurrect Mainoo’s confidence and performance levels to a pre-Euro 2024 level, which is incredibly impressive.
Owen Hargreaves said Mainoo did something impossible by returning after months on the fringes to play so well against some of the best teams in the league.
Carrick deserves praise for this, as he will have given Mainoo the belief to do this, while also platforming him within the system to play to such a high level at his strengths.
The scary part for the rest of the league is that Mainoo is only getting started.
