One of the most wonderful things about working on Land & Sea is the variety of stories we get to tell.

There could be tales about history and culture, yarns about fishing and farming, sentimental shows and programs that tackle political issues or environmental concerns.

We aim to have a seasonal lineup with something for everyone, and we always want at least one story that’s going to get a good laugh.

CBC reporter Gavin Simms pitched a quirky story that he felt would be a Land & Sea hit. It was an idea about an unlikely friendship between a man, a bird and their life together in Green’s Harbour, N.L.

Neil Simmons and his pet goose Gord Downy — named after Neil’s favourite front man, the late great, Gord Downie of The Tragically Hip — are inseparable.

Gavin described their daily swims at the pond, their musical jam sessions, their rides on the quad and in the car, and how Gord had waddled his way inside the family home where he wears handmade goose diapers.

Well, let’s just say, for a funny episode in Season 61, Gavin laid the golden egg.

We hope you enjoy A Goose Named Gord, a sweet and silly show that’ll warm your heart.
