After being crowned an NBA champion last season, former Gonzaga Bulldog Chet Holmgren can now add NBA All-Star to his resume.
The former Gonzaga star and current Oklahoma City Thunder standout earned his first All-Star selection Sunday, being named a reserve for the Western Conference team that includes LeBron James, Jamal Murray, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Anthony Edwards.
Holmgren becomes the third former Zag to make an All-Star roster, joining 10-time All-Star John Stockton and three-time All-Star Domantas Sabonis.
The 23-year-old center, in just his third NBA season, has quickly established himself as one of the league’s top two-way bigs.
In 44 starts this season, Holmgren is the Thunder’s second-leading scorer, averaging 17.7 points per game, and leads the team in rebounding at 8.5 per game among players who have appeared in at least 27 games. He also ranks third in the NBA at 2.1 blocks per game and 12th in field goal percentage at 56.6%.
This year’s All-Star Game is set for Feb. 15 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles and will feature a new format.
Two teams of U.S. players and one team of international players, known as the World Team, will compete in a round-robin tournament featuring four 12-minute games.
The NBA All-Star Game will air locally on NonStop Local KHQ and stream on Peacock.
