If you’re thinking about where to spend your retirement years, an Alberta city just made a list of the best places to retire in the Prairies.

World Atlas just released its list of the 11 best places to retire in the Prairies, and Camrose found itself on the list.

“Home prices remain below Alberta’s average, and Camrose’s grid layout, public investment, and continuous trail access make it suited to long-term, independent retirement,” the list said.

Located in Central Alberta, Camrose has a population of just over 20,000 and was touted for its mix of outdoor amenities, cultural attractions, and accessible community spaces.

The Mirror Lake trail system was highlighted as a defining feature. The trail system is a connected network of paved paths that runs through the heart of the city, loops around Mirror Lake, and continues into the Stoney Creek Valley.

Seniors’ housing developments line parts of the trail, providing direct access to the green space.

The ranking also noted some of the city’s main attractions, such as The Camrose Railway Museum and Park, which is a preserved 1911 station, featuring gardens, restored rail cars, and tours during the warmer months.

The Bailey Theatre was also mentioned. It was built in 1911, restored, and now serves as an entertainment hub for the city, offering matinee concerts, movie screenings, and lectures.

The Chuck MacLean Arts Centre was also a big draw due to the drawing, pottery, and memoir writing classes it provides for all ages.

Brooks, Swift Current, Moose Jaw, and Portage La Prairie were the other Canadian spots mentioned on the list.
