Lafaer, the company who currently sell their LWR01 presence sensor with Matter over Thread, are in the process of preparing an updated and upgraded model, simply named the LWR02, which was originally unveiled around a month ago. At present, Lafaer is offering slots for beta testers, with a view to releasing the new model in the next few months.

Like the existing model, the LWR02 will use Matter over Thread, offers mmWave presence detection and can be powered either via a USB cable or two AA batteries. However, the new model is clearly designed as competition for Aqara’s FP300 presence multi sensor, by containing not only the mmWave presence feature, but standard PIR motion detection, an ambient light sensor, and the now ubiquitous temperature and humidity sensors.

The design, although similar in some ways, does change, with a rounded mmWave sensor area in place of the pill shape found on the original. It’s presumed that the new model will still offer the same type of mounting option, that can act as either a stand or wall bracket.

Price wise, there’s no firm indicator of what to expect, but it’s likely to be at least the same price, or higher than their existing mmWave sensor, simply due to the additional features.
