OTTAWA, Feb 3 (Reuters) – Canada will do all it can to support jet maker Bombardier, ‌Industry Minister Melanie Joly said on Tuesday, ‌speaking after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened certification of the firm’s planes.

Trump’s threats initially raised alarm among airlines, customers ‌and aviation analysts and questions remain over whether he ‍would follow through with a threat to slap 50% tariffs on jets made north of the border. Shares ‌of Bombardier closed up 1.8% on Monday after slumping on Friday.

“It (Bombardier) is a crown jewel for Quebec and Canada and is very, very important for us. And we will do all we can, of course, to support the company ‍and the aeronautical sector,” Joly told reporters.

Joly, who also said she had spoken to Bombardier CEO Eric Martel on ‌Monday, did not give details.
