The centre-back position ended up dominating the final days of the January transfer window at Chelsea.
After a month of strongly chasing the signature of Jeremy Jacquet, he ended up making the move to Liverpool instead. He is set to join them at the end of the season.
The Blues do have Mamadou Sarr back in their ranks after recalling him from Strasbourg, with them sending Aaron Anselmino to their fellow BlueCo club to replace him.

By all accounts though, Chelsea are keen to get back in the market to sign a new centre-back on a permanent basis when the summer transfer window opens.

A number of names are likely to be on their list. The likes of Antonio Silva and Ousmane Diomande have frequently been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge.
However, Simon Phillips has reported that there is a new name on their shortlist, with that being Atalanta centre-back Giorgio Scalvini.
He said: “A new name that we’ve recently been told about. Eight caps for the Italian national side. Should be fairly attainable with a 2028 contract. 22-years-old.”
At 22, the defender very much fits in the club’s plans of signing younger players and developing them at Stamford Bridge.

Who is Giorgio Scalvini?
An eight-time international for Italy, Scalvini is a regular in the Atalanta side when fit and firing.
He missed a long spell of the season due to injury, and was only fit enough to make the bench when the Blues were defeated by the Serie A side in the Champions League.
Scalvini played 90 minutes as his side somehow kept a clean sheet against Como at the weekend, despite Cesc Fabregas‘ side registering more than 5xg.
Any move for a new centre-back is likely to see at least one of the current crop depart. The current favourite for that would be Tosin Adarabioyo or Benoit Badiashile.
