Sandbox VR is set to open a new venue in Surrey for virtual-reality experiences.

Groups of up to six gamers at a time can pay to play in futuristic worlds in nearly 4,000 square feet at the King George Hub complex.

Due open Friday (Feb. 6), the space includes three private rooms where guests suit up with headsets, haptic vests and motion sensors for full-body immersion.

“This technology allows players to see and physically interact with one another, creating the feeling of living inside the action together,” the company says.

“Experience” themes include Stranger Things, Squid Game, Rebel Wood, Deadwood titles, Curse of Davy Jones, UFL and more, for $60 to $65 per guest on sandboxvr.com/surrey.

Operated by four partners, the Surrey location is Sandbox VR’s seventh in Canada and second in B.C. (the one in Richmond opened in 2018), among 70 venues around the world.

Elsewhere in Surrey, an arcade-based Hologate VR game is found at Central City Fun Park and Gobo VR operates at Guildford Town Centre, while Zero Latency does business at Willowbrook mall in Langley.

Jebin Mathew, Sandbox VR franchise owner in Surrey, calls King George Hub “an emerging center” for transit, dining and entertainment.

“Sandbox VR is uniquely positioned to become a new social destination for Surrey residents and visitors alike. With its strong youth sports culture, expanding tech community, and growing demand for premium entertainment options, Surrey is the perfect home for Sandbox VR’s next-generation immersive experience.”
