Apple TV and Martin Scorsese have been pals for a while now. It helped produce and distribute Killers Of The Flower Moon, and Scorsese has popped up in shows like The Studio and the forthcoming Outcome. But wait, there’s more: Scorsese has linked up with the streamer again for Cape Fear, a story that has existed for a long time but is best remembered for the director’s 1991 spin on it. We’ve known that this has been coming for some time, but Apple TV finally shared a first look today, which includes solo shots of stars Amy Adams, Javier Bardem, and Patrick Wilson.
The streamer has also shared an official logline for the series, which reads: “Inspired by the 1991 remake directed by Martin Scorsese and produced by Steven Spielberg, a storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna (Amy Adams) and Tom Bowden (Patrick Wilson) when Max Cady (Javier Bardem), the notorious killer they are responsible for putting behind bars, is let out of prison — and he wants vengeance.”
Of course, that premise is likely pretty familiar to anyone who’s not only seen Scorsese’s film, but J. Lee Thompson’s 1962 film or John D. MacDonald’s 1957 novel The Executioners, upon which all of these are based. That said, Apple TV’s take on Cape Fear will run for 10 episodes, so we can expect some, if not different, at least additional stuff compared to either of the films. Actors CCH Pounder, Joe Anders, Lily Collias, Jamie Hector, Malia Pyles, and Anna Baryshnikov also feature in the cast. The first two episodes of Cape Fear premiere on Apple TV on June 5, followed by weekly releases every Friday through July 31.
