So far, during the CFL legal tampering period before the official start of the CFL free agency next week, the Tiger-Cats have been losing several offensive linemen. Those lost linemen include Coulter Woodmansey, Jordan Murray, and Brendan Bordner. As linemen move on to new destinations, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats must have a plan for restocking their offensive line so that they can maintain their upward trajectory when it comes to running the ball and protecting quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell.
So far, the Tiger-Cats have made a few moves to maintain their offensive line despite the changes in names and faces. So far this offseason, the Tiger-Cats have re-signed veteran offensive lineman Brandon Revenberg, and they have signed former Winnipeg Blue Bombers center Chris Kolankowski. Also, this week, the Tiger-Cats have reached an agreement to add another former Blue Bomber offensive lineman, Eric Lofton.
However, the Tiger-Cats need to keep working to sign players to maintain or improve their control of the trenches on offense. To continue improving along their offensive line, the CFL Transactions list shows that the Tiger-Cats have signed American offensive lineman Quinn Carroll. Carroll brings prototypical size for a CFL offensive tackle with his 6’7″, 315-pound frame.
Before coming to the CFL, Carroll played college football at the University of Notre Dame from 2019 until 2021 and at the University of Minnesota from 2022 until 2024. While starting his college football career at Notre Dame, Carroll tore his ACL, which made it difficult for him to work his way into a position to be a full-time contributor. After playing in 12 games in three seasons, Carroll transferred to the University of Minnesota. During his time with the Golden Gophers, Carroll played in and started 39 straight games.
During his college football career, Carroll primarily played right tackle and right guard, but in emergencies, he would play left tackle. Carroll has built a reputation for elite strength and power, and he is explosive out of his stance, making him an outstanding run blocker. However, when it comes to pass protection, Carroll has dealt with body stiffness, which has made it hard for him to consistently pass-block against speed rushers off the edge.
