Drivers in the Portage area are being urged to exercise caution as winter weather continues to affect local highways.

Many major routes, including the Trans-Canada Highway and surrounding regional highways, are partly ice-covered with frost reported in spots. Visibility remains generally good, but slippery patches can appear suddenly, particularly on bridges and shaded areas.

Weather conditions will add to the hazards.

Friday will bring partly cloudy skies turning sunny by the morning, though strong north winds of 40 km/h gusting to 60 will persist, and temperatures will struggle to reach minus 13, with wind chills as low as minus 27 in the morning.

Officials urge motorists to reduce speed, leave extra distance between vehicles, and stay alert for slippery stretches.

Travellers are also advised to check the latest road conditions and carry winter emergency kits, as the combination of icy roads and extreme wind chills can make travel dangerous.
