QW Council supporting Health Care Connect and OurTMH

Quinte West City Council approved a motion supporting the efforts of the OurTMH volunteer group to encourage residents to register on Health Care Connect to find a family doctor.

The motion was approved at a council meeting on Wednesday.

Council heard a delegation from the head of OurTMH Phil Wild and volunteer Wendy Warner regarding the group’s efforts to connect residents to the online service.

They noted that there are approximately 7000 residents of Quinte West that have been determined to not be rostered.

However, through Health Care Connect, it appears that only 934 people are registered as needing a doctor.

The group has set up registration stations across Quinte West to help guide residents through the process.

It was also presented that the city has 23 family physicians in the region, noting that if a doctor retires today, the city may need up to three new doctors.

Wilde and Warner requested council support the group by bringing awareness to the cause, as well as work with the city’s physician recruitment coordinator to encourage Health Care Connect public registration with any support council could give to marketing and services, facilities, etc.

Council introduced and approved a motion in support of the group’s efforts.
