The Boston Red Sox might have one of the more sought-after position groups in all of Major League Baseball this offseason.
Teams in need of outfield help have been looking to the Red Sox for their outfielders this offseason, with Jarren Duran and Wilyer Abreu being the most likely trade chips, with Roman Anthony being untouchable, and Ceddane Rafaela not likely to be dealt.
According to Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic, the Red Sox outfield trade update reveals that Boston is still receiving significant interest in their outfield in trade talks. But the bar for a deal is still very high, making a deal unlikely at the moment.
Red Sox hold ‘high bar’ in OF trade talks
“A team source noted that though the Red Sox have still receiving inquiries on their four outfielders,” McCaffrey writes, “they’re holding a high bar in any potential deal.”
Boston isn’t going to move on from one of their outfielders for a small return. They can fit all four into the lineup at times if they use their designated hitter spot.
And while it might not be the ideal set-up, as getting all of these outfielders on the field would be nice, the Red Sox still aren’t going to ditch anyone this offseason for a lackluster return.

Abreu and Durran are the most likely outfielders to be traded, but neither will be dealt for a small return. The Red Sox are, appropriately, treating both like superstars.
Acquiring an outfielder like Duran or Abreu, who are young, under club control on cheap deals, and still very good players, will cost a lot.
The Red Sox are getting interest, with teams like the Houston Astros interested. But the Red Sox are holding a very high bar in trade talks, which likely makes deals difficult to execute.
