KOHALA COAST, Hawaii — No. 4 Pepperdine men’s golf senior Mahanth Chirravuri sits in first place following round one of the Amer Ari Invitational after shooting a program-record 11-under 61 on Thursday from Mauna Lani Resort Golf Club.

The 61 marks the second time in program history in which a Wave shot 61 in a round, while the 11-under par is the lowest single round score to par in program history. RJ Manke had previously recorded a 10-under 61 at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational from Meadow Club in the fall of 2018.

The Waves sit in eighth-place as a team following the opening round at -17 as a team. Auburn paced the field with a -32 team score, the second lowest team round in NCAA history.

Beginning on hole 14, Mahanth Chirravuri began his round with back-to-back birdies and sat 3-under through the opening four holes, setting himself up to shoot in the low-60s as the par-72 course played to an average of 70.08 on the day. After making pars on 18 and 1, Chirravuri caught fire on the front nine and ripped off six straight birdies on holes 2-7 to put himself 9-under through 14 holes. He made par on eight and nine to ultimately log a 30 on the front nine of the course. Making back-to-back birdies on 10 and 11 to get to 11-under for the tournament, his lone blemish came on the penultimate hole in the round, making bogey on the par-4 12th. Chirravuri rebounded on the final hole, sinking a lengthy putt for his 12th birdie of the round, matching the program record with a 61 and setting a new program record with an 11-under round. He sits in solo first place following the historic round.

Brady Siravo began the day with three birdies on his first five holes after beginning with a par on the 13th. Making three straight pars on holes 18-2, he got to 4-under on the round with another birdie on the third hole. The remainder of the front nine saw three bogeys and one more birdie, as he eventually recorded a 37 on the front nine and a 32 on the back. He birdied the 10th to get back to 3-under for the round, finishing up with back-to-back pars to post a 69. He sits in a tie for 42nd individually heading into Friday’s second round.

Willy Walsh also got in with a 3-under 69 to match Siravo’s score, also posting a 37 on the front nine and 32 on the back. Beginning on hole 14, he registered back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16 to get into the red on the day. Bogeys on one and four amongst six pars brought him back to even with seven holes to play. Walsh made birdie on the par-5 seventh to get back to 1-under, before making three straight pars. He went on to birdie holes 11 and 13, finishing his round with five total birdies.

Luke Dariotis began his round with back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16, eventually getting to 3-under with another circle on the scorecard on the par-5 second hole. After making three straight pars, holes 6-10 saw him record two bogeys and a double-bogey to bring the freshman back over par at 1-over. He rebounded with three straight pars before making two on the par-3 14th, his final hole of the day. Dariotis got in with an even par 72, contributing to the Pepperdine team score, as he sits in a tie for 82nd individually.

Byungho Lee started his round with a birdie on the 15th, before a triple bogey put him 2-over through the first four holes. Lee battled back to even par with a pair of birdies on the front nine with five pars split between them. The final seven holes of his round saw one birdie and three bogeys, bringing his round to a 2-over 74.

Luke Bailey fired a 2-under 70 competing as an individual, as the sophomore sits in 60th individually. Bailey carded five birdies on the round, with just one bogey and one double bogey as the lone blemishes on the scorecard.

81 of 122 individuals shot under par on the round, as Chirravuri holds just a one-shot lead among the stacked field.
