During his travels, Teeling has earned both UEFA A and Canada Soccer A licence — among the most highly regarded coaching certifications in the soccer world.

“My experience working in Ireland, Canada, the U.S.A. and Australia has given me a wide recruiting network and exposure to every level of the game, from grassroots and recreational football to professional academies and senior semi-professional environments,” Teeling said in a press release from the university. “I’ve been fortunate to serve in a variety of roles across that journey, including assistant coach, head coach, technical director, analyst and boys and girls program leadership, which has shaped how I build programs and support athletes in different settings.”

Teeling said his most recent stop with one of Canada’s premier amateur clubs has been among the most rewarding.

“My time with TSS Rovers has been pivotal. Competing at the top of League1 BC — including multiple second-place finishes and winning the league and playoffs double in 2024 — and earning the chance to compete in the Canadian Championship against professional opposition such as Valour and Pacific reinforced what high standards, clear identity and togetherness can achieve,” he explained. “Those experiences have given me a strong foundation to help build a university program from the ground up and support young men in maximizing their potential on and off the field.

“I also take a lot of pride in developing young players and helping them push on toward the professional ranks. Creating an environment where players can grow, earn opportunities and take the next step in their careers is a big part of why I coach and it will be a key focus of what we build at Laurentian. Continuous learning is a core part of my coaching approach. I’ve completed coaching licences through the FAI and Canada Soccer, alongside ongoing higher education opportunities that continue to shape my thinking around leadership, player development and performance. The game keeps evolving and I believe coaches have to evolve with it.”

LU athletic director Peter Hellstrom said Teeling’s appointment is a combination of success and potential.

“I’m really excited to bring Brendan into the Voyageurs family,” Hellstrom said. “He knows what it takes to win at one of the highest levels and he also has experience at the OUA and U Sports level, playing and coaching at Windsor while he completed his masters. So the university game and all that comes with it are not foreign to him. Brendan gets to come in and continue building off of the great foundation that Tony and his staff have laid before him. I can’t wait to see where the next chapter of our men’s soccer program leads.”

Laurentian posted a record of 2-7-3 in OUA play this past season, Tagliafierro’s fourth with the team as head coach.

“I’m incredibly proud to join Laurentian and lead the men’s program,” Teeling said.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to build something sustainable and competitive, while building on the strong foundation and previous work of Tony Tagliafierro and the coaching staff/MDT. I’m excited to meet the players, staff and faculty and I can’t wait to get started. My vision is simple: recruit well, develop strong student-athletes and contend in the OUA. I want our teams to win, entertain and be aggressive and hard to play against — organized without the ball, brave on it and relentless in our work ethic.”

Teeling’s tenure is to begin next week.
