The celebration will continue on in Rider Nation. The Saskatchewan Roughriders Grey Cup tour begins Saturday in Humboldt, where the trophy and special guests will attend the Broncos game.
The Grey Cup trophy has changed since November; the 2025 Riders roster is now etched on the cup. Linebacker Nick Wiebe admits it is special to see his name on the trophy.
“I told my dad that my name was on the Grey Cup now, and I think he got a little emotional, too. It’s been a cool experience, obviously, just kind of have the cup and be able to have my name on it now.”
Wiebe says being a Grey Cup champion hasn’t changed him.
“Honestly, pretty normal. My parents still make fun of me all the time. I still have to make my bed, do the whole deal. Nothing has really changed around the house. Every once in a while, I’ll get a question, or if I’m wearing the Grey Cup jacket, someone will say congratulations in public, but not a whole lot has changed, but yeah, still just the rented mule around the house these days.”
The former U of S Huskie admits that being a Grey Cup champion hasn’t totally sunk in yet.
“Pretty surreal still, honestly. I think it’s just starting to set in now, obviously, kind of two months after, like, kind of the dust settles a little bit, so yeah, I think it’s starting to set in now that my name’s on the cup forever now, and that’s a pretty cool thing to be able to put my name aside.”
Wiebe is a former Hardy Cup champion with the Huskies andis looking ahead to 2026 and was asked if it is tougher to become a champion or stay a champion?
“I would argue it’s probably harder to stay a champion. I mean, this next season when we line up, we’ll get everybody’s best shot, kind of the reigning champ situation in that respect, so it’ll be interesting to see how teams approach us and kind of game plan us this year having the whole off season to kind of look at the tape and see how beating us might be possible obviously. So I would argue that staying a champion is a tougher kind of road to walk down, but I think this team’s prepared for it.”
