PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis team defeated Delaware on Friday in the first of the two scheduled matches at the Hecht Tennis Center, 4-0.
The Quakers swept the Blue Hens in doubles, taking a 1-0 lead.
No. 4 ranked Graziani/Sandler gutted out a tough match against No. 77 Lock/Mackenzie as it was back and forth for most of the match.
The teams were tied 4-4 heading into the fifth point, but Graziani and Sandler pulled out the win by winning the next two games and taking the first match of the day for the Quakers, 6-4.
No. 87 ranked S.Bharadwaj/Vales got the second doubles win for the Quakers, improving to 4-0 as a pairing this season.
Rutter/P.Bharadwaj completed the doubles sweep for the Red and Blue as they won, 6-4 as the match went into singles.
Matthew Rutter played the most dominant match of the day, defeating Euan Mackenzie in two sets including a 6-0 shutout in the first set.
Luka Butera followed with a win in the second spot for his second singles win of the season.
Justin Chung closed out the day with a two set win over Artistotelis Bezianis as the rest of the matches were abandoned and Penn secured a 4-0 win.
