‘I have asked students to block the staff member from their social media,’ a vice-principal said
The Algoma District School Board is looking into a staff member who may have communicated with students on social media.
“It has come to the school’s attention that some students may have a staff member on their social media, and that some students may have been communicating with the staff member on social media,” said Julie Hodkinson, Superior Heights Collegiate vice-principal in an email to parents that was leaked to SooToday.
“The staff member is currently away from school, and we are investigating the concern,” the email said.
ADSB staff are expected not to engage with students on social media.
“I would ask that you speak with your child about whether they have been communicating with a staff member on social media,” the message said.
“If they have, please preserve the messages and contact me to discuss next steps. If your child has staff on social media but has not communicated with them, please contact me to discuss . . . I have asked students to block the staff member from their social media,” Hodkinson said.
The school board said the issue is being reviewed.
“A concern was brought forward, and we are currently reviewing the matter to determine whether it has any merit,” said Fran Walsh, the school board’s communications officer, in an email to SooToday.
“We do not discuss personnel matters for privacy reasons. As this is an active review, we have no further comment at this time.”
