Memphis, Tenn. – The University of Memphis men’s tennis team improved to 5-0 at home this season with a convincing 4-0 win over Alabama at Leftwich Tennis Center on Friday.
No. 83 Moritz Kudernatsch/Maxime Dubouch gave the Tigers an early lead in doubles after a 6-2 win on court one that also moved the pair’s record on the season to 3-0. No. 87 Sam Reeve/Marcos Castro Fabra fought hard but ultimately lost their first match of the season, 3-6. On the deciding court three, Tiger duo Obrad Markovski/Marko Milosavljevic clinched the doubles point for the Tigers with a 6-3 win to stay undefeated this season with a 4-0 record.
In the singles matches that followed, the Tigers added an early point when Marcos Castro Fabra won his match after his opponent was forced to retire due to injury. Memphis went 2-3 in first sets with courts one and three losing their sets in tiebreakers, and courts five and six winning their sets 6-3. Serbian sophomore Marko Milosavljevic would put the Tigers on the brink of victory after securing his match 6-3, 6-2. Graduate student Leandro Zgraggen would follow quickly behind, clinching the match for the Tigers with a 6-3, 7-5 win on court five.
Memphis improves to 5-1 and will be back home Sunday, Feb. 8, against Northwestern. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Leftwich Tennis Center. Admission to the match is free.
