A luxurious new health club with an outdoor swimming pool and a spa garden could be coming to Surrey. David Lloyd has announced plans to transform the former Pavilion Club on Hurst Lane in Molesey.
The fitness company, known for its ‘state of the art’ gyms, is hoping to develop a new premium, family-friendly club in East Molesey, near Hampton Court.
In November last year, the much-loved Pavilion Club announced it was closing its doors by the end of 2025. After uproar from the community, speculation swirled as to what would happen next, and who was the mysterious leisure operator who had bought the site.
David Lloyd said it will start a public consultation ahead of putting forward a full planning application. While plans are still at an early stage, the vision for the premium club is to deliver a best-in-class health and wellness destination.
Subject to public consultation and planning approval the new Club is likely to include:
A state-of-the-art gym with Personal TrainingHeated indoor and outdoor swimming poolsDedicated indoor and outdoor children’s swimming poolsPremium group exercise studiosMatch-quality tennis, padel, pickleball and badminton facilitiesA luxury Spa Retreat with an external Spa GardenExtensive family facilities including indoor soft play and a children’s activity areaA Clubroom with food and drink, flexible spaces for work, socialising and relaxation
With all the proposed redevelopment, the gym is not expected to open before summer 2027.
Once operational, the club is anticipated to create around 80 permanent local jobs across fitness, hospitality and operational roles, in addition to supporting about 60 jobs during the construction phase.
Stuart Caswell, New Clubs Acquisition Director David Lloyd Clubs said: “We’re delighted to have secured the Hampton Court site, which represents a fantastic opportunity to invest in the local area and create a new premium health, fitness and family club.
“Although plans are still being developed, our ambition is to create a welcoming space that brings together outstanding fitness, wellness, family and social facilities, supporting both physical and mental wellbeing for members of all ages.”
