Super Bowl parties are awesome, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
Unless you are a fan of one of the two teams involved in the game, you have no excuse to be a stick in the mud and watch the Super Bowl without some friends and good food, in my opinion.
The Super Bowl is supposed to be fun, and each year I try to get a few of my casual buddies to make a few bets on the game.
One of my buddies wanted nothing to do with sports betting until he saw Netflix’s Uncut Gems and suddenly he’s hitting up my line looking for a “play that would make Howie proud.”
I’m not one to shy away from a challenge, so I found three bets for Steve and when you parlay them together, you get around 70-1 odds.
And here’s the best part: I want this to be easy for you, so I located three wagers that you won’t have to break out the phone and check stats while your hands are covered in sauce.
This is… The Ultimate Super Bowl Parlay for casuals.
Leg 1: AJ Barner Over 0.5 rushing yards +116
The ‘Tush Push’ has taken the NFL by storm in recent seasons, and the Seattle Seahawks are no stranger to the play.
This season, the Seahawks have successfully converted on 10 of the 11 tush pushes they have run. However, they don’t use quarterback Sam Darnold for this, they bring in tight end AJ Barner to pick up the …”Barnyard.”
There is only one path to this bet winning, you won’t need to sweat it until Seattle has a 4th and 1 or end up at the 1-yard line.
At +116, I like this as the first leg of our Super Bowl parlay and will be putting half a unit on it as a straight to cover my next two wagers.
Leg 2: Drake Maye Anytime Touchdown +280
After running six times per game in the regular season, Patriots’ QB Drake Maye has leaned on his legs more in the postseason, totaling 24 carries for 141 yards in three games.
Maye’s rushing prop is currently 35.5 yards and 6.5 attempts.
But this is a Super Bowl party, and I don’t have the bandwidth to track how many attempts he has or if he’s gone over the amount of yards I need him to get.
But I can see the end zone, and I’ll know whether he scores or not.
Maye scored New England’s only touchdown in the AFC Championship game and had four other times when he found the end zone this season.
In the biggest game of his life, against one of the best defences he has ever seen, those windows in the red zone will get tight. Maye has leaned on his legs in the postseason, why not score another in the Super Bowl.
At +280, I’ll put 0.3 units on this play.
Leg 3: First Half Winner (3 way) Tie +850
I have recently discovered the glory of cashing a halftime tie.
It’s simply something you have to experience.
There’s only been two half time ties in the Super Bowl since 2015, however both have connections to this matchup.
The most recent half time tie in a Super Bowl happened when the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers were tied 10-10 at the break. Super Bowl LX is being played in the home stadium of the 49ers in Santa Clara.
The only other half time tie at the Super Bowl was in 2015 when these two last met.
So, I’m seeing the signs and they’re pointing to this game being tight at the half.
I like this bet, I don’t really have a ton of logic behind playing it other than the score is right in front of me, and I can track it all game. It seems perfect for a potential Super Bowl sweat.
At +850, I’ll only play 0.15 units on this.
The Parlay
So there you have it, three bets with 0.05 units remaining, so let’s put them all together for 70-1 odds.
Oh, and Steven, if you really want to honour Howie, FanDuel is letting you add the coin toss to Same Game Parlays for the Super Bowl, so you can take this to 120-1 odds with a Flip of Density.
I don’t have an official play yet for the Super Bowl coin toss, but my model will have its pick before kickoff. In my 28 years of calling Super Bowl coin tosses, my model has gone 50 per cent.
