LHSAA Playoff Brackets
Area Prep Soccer Playoff Report for Saturday, Feb. 7
In LHSAA prep soccer opening round action Friday, area teams Jesuit, Brother Martin, St. Paul’s, Willow, Livingston Collegiate, Archbishop Shaw, Country Day, Lycee Francais de la Nouvelle Orleans, Sarah T. Reed, Ursuline Academy, St. Thomas Aquinas and Newman were victorious.
In the boys Division I bracket, No. 2 seed Brother Martin blanked No. 31 Live Oak 5-0 at Lafreniere Park.
Ross Allesandro led the Crusaders with two goals while Trey Dufrene, Wyatt Hutchins and Evan Kelly each added a goal. Callen Pearse and Owen Turner pitched the clean sheet in goal.
Brother Martin (19-3-1) advances to host No. 18 Lafayette in the regional round. The Lions toppled No. 15 Acadiana 1-0.
In Division III, No. 18 Archbishop Shaw went on the road and defeated No. 15 Lutcher 2-0.
Shaw scored in the opening 10 minutes off a long throw into the box from Aiden Rubi and Jariel Hernandez volleyed it into the left side of the net for a 1-0 lead.
It stayed that way until the 65th minute when Miguel Lopez drove into the box and curled in the insurance goal to the far post.
The Eagles (11-10-1) advance to play at No. 2 Loyola Prep in the regional round. The Flyers shut out No. 31 Opelousas 8-0.
In Division IV, No. 5 seed Country Day shut out No. 28 D’Arbonne Woods 8-0 in Metairie.
Senior George Blessey produced a hat trick to lead the Cajuns, including two first half goals. Junior Tyler Tassin, senior Eli Jones and junior Will Marsiglia also scored in the first half as Country Day led 5-0 at the break.
Junior Soren Christesen, freshman James Katz and Blessey each added a goal in the second half.
Country Day (13-5-1) advances to the regional round to host No. 12 seed Lycee Francais de la Nouvelle Orleans, who defeated No. 21 Union Parish 8-3.
