An outbreak is declared when there are two or more cases of the same respiratory virus

The Sault Area Hospital has declared that a COVID-19 outbreak on unit 2C is now over.

Unit 2C is for patients requiring post-acute complex continuing care.

Two units at the hospital still have COVID-19 outbreaks. Those units include 1B, which is for post-acute transitional care, and 3B, “a general medicine unit that provides care for patients with a variety of non-surgical medical conditions.”

An outbreak is declared when there are two or more cases of the same respiratory virus.

There were less than five confirmed cases of COVID-19 in each unit, although the hospital confirmed they are definitely taking this seriously.

“While any outbreak is concerning, we have strong protocols in place and remain focused on the safety of our patients, visitors, and staff,” said Brandy Sharp Young, the hospital’s director of corporate affairs, via email.

The hospital is asking the public to continue following all masking and hand hygiene guidelines to help reduce the risk of transmission.
