As of this past week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, just one match is officially scheduled for WrestleMania 42, which is now just over two months away from taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 18 & 19. Royal Rumble winner Roman Reigns will challenge World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk for his title in what will presumably be the main event of the second night of action from Sin City.
But what about the rest of the card?
According to a new report from Fightful Select, the so called “original plans” for the event have “simply not been presented” and what’s more, “a lot” of the card is still under discussion. Liv Morgan won the Royal Rumble and has yet to choose between Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer and Women’s Champion Jade Cargill. The winner of the women’s Elimination Chamber match, naturally, will face whoever is left after that choice is made. This also means Drew McIntyre will defend his WWE championship against whomever wins the men’s Elimination Chamber match.
The rest of the card is wide open, and it’s hard telling if this means plans for matches like Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker have been changed or were simply never made in the first place. One would think AJ Lee would be involved in some capacity but we’ve scarcely heard a word on that front since her last big show at Survivor Series late last year.
And what about names like Brock Lesnar, GUNTHER, Cody Rhodes, Jacob Fatu, Sami Zayn, and even Logan Paul?
I guess we’ll just have to stay tuned, but the fact that there isn’t a very clear direction right now for most of the card is indicative of where creative stands within all of WWE right now. Reigns and Punk are going to carry the day, and they proved they can do just that with their personal issues being used as fodder for their feud, but we should be expecting better for the rest of the card.
