Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington women’s tennis added to the win column for the first two times of the spring. The Mavericks (2-3) swept their home doubleheader, beating the UT Dallas Comets 4-1 and the Lubbock Christian Chaparrals 4-2.

UTA was led by the freshman trio of Sofia Selle, Natalia Gonzalez and Tasnime Ahamout as well as sophomore Vanja Cado. All four players won both of their singles matches in the doubleheader and secured every team point scored for the Mavericks. 

In both matches, UTA fell behind early after losing the doubles point, but the Mavericks were able to take care of business in singles play. 

After dropping her doubles match while teaming with Selle, Cado rebounded  in singles play with a straight sets victory over the Comets’ Katia Robinson on Court 1. The sophomore stayed hot against Lubbock Christian, winning her doubles match alongside Selle and defeating AnaMaria Zoric in singles play 6-1, 6-4 on Court 2.

In addition to going 1-1 in her doubles matches with Cado, Selle competed exclusively on Court 3 in singles matchups. The freshman’s matchup against UT Dallas’ Reika Nagai ended with a hard-fought, second-set, 7-5 victory that secured a point for the Mavericks. Selle capped her day off with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Lubbock Christian’s Oshini Herath.

Gonzalez and Ahamout competed as UTA’s Court 3 doubles team, winning their match against UT Dallas before dropping their tilt against the Chaparrals. The freshman duo dominated their singles bouts, winning both in straight sets with neither opponent winning more than three games in a set. Gonzalez competed on Court 5 while Ahamout played on Court 6.

The Mavericks will look to make it three wins in a row when they face SMU at noon, Friday at the UTA Tennis Center.
