Ghostface is back, and as usual, he’s out for blood. Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer for “Scream 7.”
“Scream 7” was first announced in August 2023. The film centers on Neve Campbell‘s Sidney Prescott and a new Ghostface killer, who is hellbent on upending Sidney’s life with her daughter. Campbell sat out for “Scream 6” due to a pay issue, but is now back after helping revive the franchise with “Scream 5.”
Courteney Cox and David Arquette will return as their characters from the previous “Scream” movies. Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley will also reprise their deceased characters from past films.
Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown are set to return to the cast, joined by newcomers Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, McKenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, Mark Consuelos and Ethan Embry.
The first four installments of the “Scream” franchise — “Scream” (1996), “Scream 2” (1997), “Scream 3” (2000) and “Scream 4” (2011) were directed by the late Wes Craven, who died in 2015. Kevin Williamson, who created the series and wrote the first two films and the fourth, will write and direct the seventh film. “Scream 7” is produced by William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein.
“Scream 7” faced major setbacks with production delays from the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, creative overhauls and cast members not returning for the latest film. Melissa Barrera, who starred in the previous two films as Sam Carpenter, was removed from the cast due to her comments on social media about the ongoing conflict in Israel. Jenna Ortega, who co-starred with Barrera as her onscreen sister Tara Carpenter, exited the film shortly after, due to a scheduling conflict with shooting Netflix’s “Wednesday.”
“Scream 7” will release in theaters on Feb. 27.
